Manipulating Storagesets and I/O Paths
You can use Secure Path Manager to perform the following actions on the
storagesets and I/O paths that are managed by Secure Path Manager:
■ Move a storageset from one array controller to another. Use this action
when you want to change the ownership of a storageset from one array
controller to the other.
■ Make an I/O path Alternate. Use this action when you have Load
Distribution enabled and you want to disable I/O operations to one or
more I/O paths.
■ Make an I/O path Preferred. Use this action when you have Load
Distribution enabled and you want to re-enable I/O operations to a path
that you have previously disabled.
■ Change the Preferred I/O path. Use this action when Load Distribution
is disabled, there are multiple I/O paths available to a storageset on the
same controller and you wish to select a new Preferred Path for normal
I/O operations.
■ Make an I/O path Offline. Use this action when you want to prevent that
path from being used for any I/O operations under any circumstances.
■ Make an I/O path Online. Use this action when you want to return a path
that is currently in the “Alt-Offline” or “Pre-Offline” mode to its
original mode.
■ Verify an I/O path. Use this action when you want Secure Path Manager
to determine the current state of a path.
■ Repair an I/O path. Use this action when you want Secure Path Manager
to restore access to a failed path after the problem has been corrected.
Refer to the Compaq documentation provided with the Secure Path software
for details on performing these operations.
Detecting I/O Path and Array Controller Failures
Secure Path Manager periodically monitors the status of all systems in your
storage profile at a rate determined by the Polling Interval storage profile
parameter. To indicate failures, icons are used and path states are set to
FAILED in the Secure Path Manager GUI. In addition, failover events are
logged by the RaiDisk driver in the Event Viewer.
You should routinely monitor Secure Path Manager status to check for the
occurrence of failover events that might compromise either the performance or
availability of storage resources.
