Shared Disk Drives
Shared disk drives are contained in the RA4000/RA4100 Arrays and are
accessible to each node in the PDC/O2000.
If a logical drive is configured with a RAID level that does not support fault
tolerance (for example, RAID 0), then the failure of the shared disk drives in
that logical drive will disrupt service to all Oracle databases that are dependent
on that disk drive. See “Selecting the Appropriate RAID Levels” earlier in this
chapter.
As with other types of failures, Compaq Insight Manager monitors the status
of shared disk drives and will mark a failed drive as “Failed.”
Network Planning
Windows 2000 Advanced Server Hosts Files for an
Ethernet Cluster Interconnect
When an Ethernet cluster interconnect is installed between cluster nodes, the
Compaq operating system dependent modules (OSDs) require a unique entry
in the hosts and lmhosts files located at %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc
for each network port on each node.
Each node needs to be identified by the IP address assigned to the Ethernet
adapter port used by the Ethernet cluster interconnect and by the IP address
assigned to the Ethernet adapter port used by the client LAN. The suffix
“_san” stands for system area network.
The following list identifies the format of the hosts and lmhosts files for a
four-node PDC/O2000 cluster with an Ethernet cluster interconnect:
