Oracle Software
The PDC/O2000 supports Oracle8i software. If you are using a release other
than Oracle8i Release 8.1.7, confirm that the release has been certified for the
PDC/O2000 on the Compaq website at
www.compaq.com/solutions/enterprise/ha-pdc.html
Oracle8i Server Enterprise Edition
The Oracle8i Server Enterprise Edition provides the following:
■ Oracle8i Server
■ Oracle8i Parallel Server Option
■ Oracle8i Enterprise Manager
Oracle8i Server
Oracle8i Server is the database application software and must be installed on
each node in the PDC/O2000.
Refer to the documentation provided with the Oracle8i Server software for
additional information.
Oracle8i Parallel Server Option
Oracle8i Parallel Server Option is the key component in the Oracle8i
clustering architecture. Oracle8i Parallel Server allows the database server to
divide its workload among the physical cluster nodes. This is accomplished by
running a distinct instance of Oracle8i Server on each node in the PDC/O2000.
Oracle8i Parallel Server manages the interaction between these instances.
Through its Integrated Distributed Lock Manager, Oracle8i Parallel Server
manages the ownership of database records that are requested by multiple
instances.
At a lower level, Oracle8i Parallel Server monitors cluster membership. It
interacts with the OSDs, exchanging information about the state of each
cluster node.
