Physical configuration
Each ProLiant DL380 G 5 8 TB Data Protection Storage Server c om es with two hot-p lugg able a nd
hot-swappable internal HDDs for the operating system only. The drives are con figured by default into two
RAID 1 logica
l drives at the c ontroller level as shown in Figure 13.

The DL380
G5 Data Protection Storage Server uses Microsoft Disk Manager (DM) to present the 36 GB
HDDs to t
he system as basic disks. The ser ver uses two logical drives as presented to it from the physical
storage
layer for the OS and DON’T ERASE basic par titions. The non-OS logical drives with the MSA30s
are use
d by Data Protection Manager (DPM) and should not be configured using DM.

In the HP ACU, logical drives are labeled 1 and 2. In Microsoft Disk Manager, logical drives are
displayedas0and1.
The DON’T ERASE logical disk suppor ts the recovery process only and does not host a secondary
operating system. If the operating system has a failure that might result from corrupt system files, a corrupt
registry, or the system hangs during boot, refer to "System installation and recovery"onpage45.
Data volumes are not carved at the factory or by the System Installation and Recovery DVD, and must
be configuredmanuallybytheenduser.Besuretobackupyouruserdata,andthenusetheSystem
Installation and Recovery DVD to restore the ser ver to the factory default state as soon as conveniently
possible.
