d-user recovery feature allows end users to independently recover data by retrieving shadow
copies of
files. To use this feature, you must enable it on your Da ta Protection Storage Server a nd on
the end-
user client PC. For detailed instructions on enabling the end-user recovery function, please

Supporting Single Instance Storage on protected file servers
This section only applies if one or more of your protected file servers are running Single Instance Storage
(SIS) on a volume protected by DPM. By default, DPM does not support SIS on a protected volume, but
hotfixes are provided in the c:\hpnas\components\DPM\SIS-QFE folder that can be applied.
SIS works by searching a hard disk volume to identify duplicate files. If SIS finds identical files, it saves
one copy of the file to a central repository, called the SIS Common Store, and replaces other c opies
with pointers to the stored versions. If SIS-linked files are backed up by DPM, the link information is not
restored properly when the files are restored. To resolve this problem follow the procedure below.
1. Install the provided DataProtectionManager2006-KB917642.exe on the Data Protection
Storage Server. This hotfix c annot b e applied until the DPM mini-setup has been performed. DPM
mini-setup is discussed in your Data Protection Storage Ser ver installation guide.
2. Go to the Management/Agents tab of the DPM user interface. Update the agent on the protected
file ser ver that uses SIS.
3. Install the provided WindowsServer2003-KB913109.exe hotfix on both the Data Protection
Storage Server and the protected server.
4. Go to the Protection tab on the DPM user interface and run a synchronization with consistency check
on the protected volumes.
