Removing the PCI Riser Cage
To remove the expansion slot cover or install an expansion board in slot 1, you
must remove the PCI riser cage.
To remove the PCI riser cage:
1. Power down the server. See the “Powering Down the Server” section in
this chapter.
CAUTION: To avoid the risk of damage to your system or
expansion boards, remove all AC power cords before installing or
removing non-hot-plug expansion boards. Moving the Power
On/Standby button to the standby position still provides auxiliary
power to the PCI expansion slot and may damage the board or
other system components.
2. Remove the access panel. See the “Removing the Access Panel” section
in this chapter.
3. Verify that the AC power connected LED on the PCI riser cage is not
illuminated. See the “PCI Riser Cage LEDs” section in Appendix E,
“LED Indicators and Switches.”
4. Disconnect any internal or external cables connected to any existing
expansion boards.
