fails, the system automatically boots from processor 2 and provides a
processor failure message.
ProLiant DL380 Generation 2 servers use PPMs as DC-to-DC converters to
provide the proper power to each processor. Each PPM must be installed in the
slot adjacent to its processor.
Processor and PPM Warnings and Cautions
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the
internal system components to cool before touching.
CAUTION: Do not mix processors of different types or speeds.
CAUTION: Electrostatic discharge can damage electronic components. Properly
ground yourself before beginning any installation procedure. See Appendix B,
Electrostatic Discharge, for more information.
CAUTION: Processor socket 1 must be populated with a processor at all times.
The system fails to boot, halts during the POST, and does not function properly if
the socket is not populated.
CAUTION: PPM slots must be populated when processors are installed. If PPM
slots are not populated, the system does not function correctly.
Removing a Processor
To remove an existing processor:
1. Power down the server. See the Powering Down the Server section in
this chapter.
2. Remove the access panel. See the Removing the Access Panel section
in this chapter.
