The Windows NT PCI Hot Plug utility screen is divided into three sections:
■ Top—This area enables you to connect to a remote computer by typing
the machine name in the combo box, selecting a machine from the
combo box, or using Browse to bring up a selection dialog. Refresh
refreshes the PCI Hot Plug information for the current machine.
■ Middle—The list control displays information about the PCI Hot Plug
slots on the current machine: LEDs, location, board name (if any), and
the status of the slot and/or expansion board. The columns can be sorted
and resized, and some can be hidden. (These commands are accessible
by right-clicking the mouse on a column header.)
■ Bottom—The filter drop-down list box can be used to define the slots
shown: the power button toggles the power to the currently selected slot;
Help brings up the standard Help Finder dialog; and Exit exits the
utility.
Performing Hot-Plug Actions
The Compaq PCI Hot Plug Utility and the Compaq Remote Control service
enable the following actions:
■ Connecting to a remote machine
■ Hot replacing expansion boards
NOTE: The Microsoft Windows 2000 Server operating system supports hot addition of
expansion boards; however, the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 operating system does not
support hot addition of expansion boards.
At startup, the utility attempts to connect to the local machine. The utility can
communicate with any remote machine that is running the Compaq Remote
Control service.
Connecting to a Remote Machine
Use one of the following methods to select the remote machine to which you
want to connect:
■ Type the name of the machine in the combo box and press the Enter
key.
■ Select one of the ten most recently connected machines from the
drop-down list.
■ Click Browse to bring up a machine selection dialog box.
