HP ProLiant DL2000 server technologies
The primary power capping modes include:
The no-redundancy option allows you to run the entire chassis and all server nodes on one or two
power supplies as long as the total power consumption fits in the power envelope. The chassis shuts
down if you have a power failure.
The AC-redundancy-with-throttling option allows servers to run at maximum performance. The
chassis draws its power from both power supplies. If one power supply fails and the chassis’ power
consumption is greater than the one power supply, the servers throttle down to fit in the reduced
power envelope of that one power supply.
The full-AC/DC-redundancy option allows you to run the chassis with one power supply while the
second supply remains available for redundancy. If the first power supply fails, the backup supply
then runs the entire chassis.
The HP Power Advisor lets you set your configuration on the DL2000 and get a power value
associated with that configuration. That number indicates the size of the power supply that the server
requires. Adjusting the amount of power delivered to a server so it’s closer to the actual power used
offers the best efficiency. It also reclaims wasted or lost power in the rack with no impact on
performance.
Power strategy
The DL2000
adds power-saving benefits of more efficient power supplies that let you increase energy
efficiency. The DL2000 supports the following common-slot power supplies:
1200W 92% efficient
1200W 94% efficient (industry best efficiency)
750W 94% efficient
The 1200W, 94% efficient power supply provides a significant power savings advantage over other
vendors that offer only 92% efficient power supplies.
The DL2000 power supply strategy lets you reduce energy costs by matching a power supply with the
amount of power a server is consuming. Additionally, this strategy means you can reduce and
simplify power supply spare inventory, because many different servers can use the same size power
supply.
