ProLiant DL145 G2 Server Best Practices and General Information

The ROMPaq flash utility is used for upgrading both the System BIOS and Lights-Out 100i
Remote Management Firmware. To use ROMPaq in a PXE environment, it is necessary to create a
PXE bootable DOS image and include the ROMPaq within this image.
It is also necessary to configure ROMPaq to run in unattended mode. Follow the instructions in the
readme file on the ROMPaq diskette for running in unattended mode. If the readme file is not
present, copy the CONFIG.FAC file to CONFIG.SYS or edit the CONFIG.SYS file to include the
following line:
SHELL=A:\ROMPAQ.EXE /l:us /U cpqsrvro.cpu cpqo0501.c77
Once these changes are complete, the PXE bootable DOS image can be created.
2.3 Lights-Out 100i Remote Management / Command Line Protocol (CLP)
The System BIOS and Lights-Out 100i Remote Management Firmware can also be upgraded
using the Lights-Out 100i Remote Management Command Line Protocol (CLP) interface using the
“LOAD” command and requires the use of an external TFTP server. Both Linux and Microsoft
Windows environments are fully supported. Reference the

Note: It is also possible to use the Virtual Floppy feature to upgrade the System BIOS, but it
cannot be used to upgrade Lights-Out 100i Remote Management Firmware.
2.4 Removable Media
Both USB Floppies and USB Keys can be used to update the System BIOS and Lights-Out 100i
Remote Management Firmware. USB Keys must be initialized as a removable device and not as a
hard drive device, in order to boot without manual intervention.
As noted above in Section 1.2 regarding PXE, ROMPaq can be used with flash keys in order to
update the System BIOS as well as Lights-Out 100i Remote Management Firmware.
2.5 Relevant System BIOS Settings
Effective with the release of System BIOS Version 2.16, it should not be necessary to change the
default settings. Settings that have been required to change prior to 2.16 are as follows:
Advanced ->
MCFG = disable
->Hammer Configuration
PDC [disabled]
