Server Blade Recovery
Overview
This chapter describes setting up a server blade recovery operation using Rapid
Deployment Pack (RDP) and Insight Manager 7. In the event a server blade fails, a
designated spare server blade takes on the role of the failed server blade.
Restrictions and Assumptions
This recovery method is for stateless servers or server blades. The image placed
on the spare server blade is captured when the server blade is originally set up.
Any change in state is lost.
Server blade names and the names of RDP events and images must be consistent.
VLANs and load balancer are not adjusted for the new server. This method could
be extended to include them in the future.
Currently, this recovery method supports a single spare for a set of target server
blades. A time period exists in which server blade recovery is not operational
because the spare has been taken. Once the faulty server blade is replaced and a
new spare set up, the system is fully operational. More than one spare can be
supported and the system will stay fully operational (assuming some of the failed
server blades are replaced before all the spares are used).
