Installing and Connecting the HP Redundant / External Power Supplies
Installation Procedures
1. Prepare the Installation Site
■ Cabling - Use only the cables supplied with the particular RPS/EPS being
installed. For example, when installing an HP 620 RPS/EPS, only use the
cables that came with that device. Do not intermix cables from one model
to the other.
■ Installation Location - Before installing any of the RPS/EPS power
supplies, plan its location and orientation relative to other devices and
equipment considering cable lengths, cooling and other requirements.
In both the front and back of these devices, leave at least 7.6 cm (3 inches)
of space for the EPS and RPS cables, the power cord, and for cooling.
2. Unpack the Unit
■ Check all included parts. See “Included Parts” (page 5-2)
• HP 600/610 RPS/EPS (page 5-2)
• HP 620 RPS/EPS (page 5-3)
• HP 630 RPS/EPS (page 5-4)
Retain all packing material, especially any unused screws or mounting
brackets. They may be needed for future use.
3. Mount the Unit
The RPS/EPS power supplies can be mounted:
■ on a horizontal surface
■ in a rack or cabinet
Horizontal Surface Mounting
Place the unit on a table or other horizontal surface. The unit comes with
rubber feet in the accessory kit that can be used to help keep the unit from
sliding on the surface.
Attach the rubber feet to the four corners on the bottom of the unit. Use a
sturdy surface in an uncluttered area. You may want to secure the EPS and
RPS cables and the unit’s power cord to the table leg or other part of the
surface structure to help prevent tripping over the cords.
Caution Make sure the air flow is not restricted around the front and back of the unit,
leave at least 7.6 cm (3 inches) for cooling.
