Installing and Connecting the HP Redundant / External Power Supplies
Recommended Connection Topologies
Status Indication
The Power Status LEDs on the HP 620 RPS/EPS indicate if a port can provide
power. For example, if two switches are connected to the HP 620 RPS/EPS
and the power to the switch on port 2 fails, the Power Status LED for port 2
turns on. The Power Status LED for port 1 remains off.

Recommendations
The HP 620 RPS/EPS is designed to provide primary or backup power to up
to two HP PoE switches. In the following illustration, two HP 3500yl switches
are being supplied with external PoE power from an HP 620 RPS/EPS. The
switches provide PoE power to Ethernet devices connected to their ports.

Limitations
In the illustration above, the maximum power that can be provided to each
switch is 398 watts.
UPS Support
The HP 620 RPS/EPS may be used in configurations where an Uninterruptible
Power Supply (UPS) is desired. See Appendix A, “Specifications,” for the
power requirements of the HP 600 RPS/EPS for use in determining your UPS
requirements.
