Introducing the HP 630 Redundant and/or
External Power Supply
The HP 630 Redundant and External Power Supply can supply both backup
system power to HP networking switches that are equipped to accept that
power, and additional PoE power to HP PoE switches.
Figure 4-1. HP 630 Redundant and/or External Power Supply (J9443A)
Throughout this manual, this unit will be abbreviated as the HP 630 RPS/EPS.
The HP 630 RPS/EPS has one RPS port, which can provide redundant +12V
power to a connected switch to support switch operation. If a switch with no
AC power is connected to an operating HP 630 RPS/EPS, the switch will not
power on. The RPS functionality is designed to power the switch when the
switch’s primary power source is lost. It will not apply power until the switch
has been connected to the primary power source, and has received power
from the primary power source.
For example, to setup redundant AC power:
1. Power up the switch.
2. Connect the HP 630 RPS/EPS to the switch using the supplied RPS cable.
3. Power up the HP 630 RPS/EPS
The HP 630 RPS/EPS has one EPS Port which can supply backup or extra
PoE+ power at 54V to a support PoE+ Switch. See the list of supported
switches on page 4-6.
