Starting the Event Handler on AIX nodes
This technical note outlines the steps that are necessary to ensure that proper permissions are set on AIX 5.2 managed
nodes after their re-installation.
Setting Permissions after re-installing an AIX node
Under certain certain circumstances, HPOMfOV will throw an error message when an attempt is made to start the
Event Handler from an AIX 5.2 node. If an AIX 5.2 node icon is dragged and dropped onto the Start Event Handler
icon, a file access permission is disallowed, which prevents the operation from completing successfully. This issue
arises only when the OVOU (OpenView Operations for UNIX) agent is uninstalled and then reinstalled. When the
OVOU agent is first installed, it has full write privileges. Upon un-installation and re-installation, the /dev/null
file is re-created without full write privileges. This results in script failure when an attempt is made to redirect output
to the /dev/null file.
To resolve this issue, the /dev/null file must be manually assigned full write privileges (crw-rw-rw-) after
each OVOU agent re-installation.
