Overview
Creating backup specifications using GUI
The procedure below shows how to back up Microsoft VSS objects using the Data
Protector GUI. Some writers have specific limitations. For writers specific limitations,
see:
• For Microsoft Exchange Server specifics, see “Microsoft Exchange Server writer
backup specifics” on page 32.
• For Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2006 specifics, see “Microsoft Data
Protection Manager 2006 writer specifics” on page 36.
To create a new backup specification for the VSS integration, proceed as follows:
1. In the HP Data Protector Manager, switch to the Backup context.
2. In the Scoping Pane, expand Backup Specifications.
3. Right-click MS Volume Shadow Copy Writers and click Add Backup.
4. In the Create New Backup dialog box, select Local or network backup for the
backup type.
5. In Application system, specify the name of the client that has the VSSBAR agent
installed.
When backing up cluster-aware writers (such as SQL Server via the MSDE Writer,
or Exchange Server in LCR or CCR environment), specify the virtual server name
given in the particular writer resource group.
Click Next.
6. This page only displays the selection of your VSS client. Clik Next.
