HP Insight Control for VMware vCenter Server Installation Guide (7.0)
1 Overview
HP Insight Control for VMware vCenter Server (Insight Control for vCenter) includes the core Insight
Control capabilities for VMware vCenter Server, the HP Insight Control Server Module for vCenter
(Server Module for vCenter), and the HP Insight Control Storage Module for vCenter (Storage
Module for vCenter).
Architecture
Insight Control for vCenter is delivered as a single integrated application. The application consists
of three modules. The core module is required; the Server Module for vCenter and Storage Module
for vCenter are optional components that you select during installation.
Core Module Provides the framework required by the Server Module for vCenter
and Storage Module for vCenter.
Server Module for vCenter Provides server hardware management capabilities, including
comprehensive monitoring, firmware update, ESX/ESXi image
deployment, remote control, Virtual Connect, and power
optimization for HP servers in the VMware environment.
Storage Module for vCenter Provides storage configuration and status information for mapping
VMs, datastores, and hosts to LUNs on HP storage arrays.
Supports provisioning on HP P4000, P2000 G3 MSA, and P6000
EVA arrays. Supported provisioning tasks include creating,
expanding, or deleting a datastore, and creating or cloning a
VM.
Insight Control for vCenter is integrated with the vCenter management server (also known as vCenter
Server) and the vSphere Client software from VMware. VMware vCenter is used as the single point
of management for VMware virtual environments, which can consist of many standalone or clustered
vSphere configurations. The virtual environment administrator accesses the vCenter management
capabilities using the vSphere Client software.
The Insight Control for vCenter software is installed on a management server or a VM and then
configured to connect and register with a vCenter management server. After Insight Control for
vCenter is registered with a vCenter Server, all vCenter clients connected to the vCenter Server
can use the HP Insight Management tab to access the Insight Control for vCenter software. See
