5 Configuring application components in the HP VAN SDN
Controller
Log into the HP VAN SDN Controller to configure components of the application .
Accessing the configurable components
The default values set in the HP VAN SDN Controller are sufficient for the optimal functioning of
the application. You can configure some of the application components on the HP VAN SDN
Controller. You can enable or disable the components for testing and troubleshooting purposes.
The Configurations enable access to the configurable components in the HP VAN SDN Controller.
Descriptions of the configurable components
Rule refresher
The application provides a rule refresher mechanism to refresh the DNS redirect rule pushed down
by the application. It may be configured within the base controller configurations section and the
default interval of 3 seconds is enabled when the application is installed.
The purpose of this rule refresher is to age out the DNS Divert rule on all the controlled switches
in the event that the application becomes unavailable. A failure to refresh the rule effectively
disables DNS inspection after 7 seconds, at which time the DNS traffic would be forwarded directly
to the DNS server.
NOTE: You cannot change the values in the rule refresher configuration section. These values
can be changed only by the HP support personnel for troubleshooting purposes.
