HP Network Optimizer SDN Application - Microsoft Lync 1.0 Administrator Guide

10 Viewing Best effort flow statistics
If Net Optimizer - Lync fails to apply QoS policies to a Lync flow, the flow is regarded as a Best
effort flow and is classified by its Best effort reasons. The Best effort flow table provides statistics
of devices in which Lync flows fail to be applied with QoS policy and fall into the Best effort flows.
Net Optimizer - Lync presents the statistics of the Best effort flows by their Data Path ID and Best
effort reasons and provides a filtering function to view the Best effort flow statistics.
Viewing the Best effort flow statistics table
Click Net Optimizer - Lync from the navigation tree, and then click Best Effort Reasons. The Best
Effort Reasons table appears. In this table, you can view the following information:
Data Path ID—Used to uniquely identify an OpenFlow device. It indicates in which device the
Best effort flow occurred.
Best Effort Reason—Indicates the reason that caused the QoS deployment failure.
The best effort reasons include:
Over Grace License Limit—The total number of the concurrent users in the flow exceeds
the license limit (number of grace users). For more information about grace license limit,
see Viewing Active Sessions/Users In Time chart.
Out of resource—The failure of the DSCP marking on a flow is caused by a FlowMod
error or the flow table is full.
NOTE: A FlowMod error is a configuration error on the switch that prevents flows from
receiving DSCP values.
A flow table records network activities on the switches, including but not limited to Net
Optimizer - Lync activities. When a flow starts, it appears as an entry in the flow table
until it ends. If the flow table is full, new flows cannot come in or receive DSCP values.
After a flow ends, the corresponding entry in the flow table is cleared, thus making it
possible for a new flow to get in and receive DSCP values.
Unknown host connected device—The endpoint device that host connected is unknown.
For instance, the end device is a non-OpenFlow device.
Others—Indicates the failure of the DSCP marking on a flow is caused by any other
reason than one of those listed above.
Count—Indicates the number of flows that fall into Best effort flow for the corresponding reason.
To get the latest statistics of the Best effort flows, click Refresh.
You can also view the Best effort flow statistics on dashboard view. For more information, see
Viewing the Best effort reasons chart.
Filtering Best effort flow statistics
You can specify a time range to view only the statistics of the Best effort flows occurred in the time
range.
To set filter criteria for Best effort flow statistics:
1. Click Filter on the top of the Best Effort Reasons page.
The Filter Best Effort Reasons box appears.
