HP Network Optimizer SDN Application - Microsoft Lync 1.0 Administrator Guide

After a Lync FE server is removed from the Lync FE Servers table, Net Optimizer - Lync cannot
deploy control rules to that server.
DSCP settings
The primary function of the Net Optimizer - Lync is to prioritize and mark the Lync calls with
predefined DSCP values based on the media type of the calls.
Generally, different types of network services require different QoS policies. In the Net Optimizer
- Lync, all Lync calls are prioritized by their media types, including control, voice, video, and
application sharing.
The DSCP settings function enables QoS policy customization per service type, which means that
you can set a DSCP value for each Lync media type. Net Optimizer - Lync identifies the type of a
Lync call and provisions the corresponding DSCP value to the Lync flows.
NOTE: After the Net Optimizer - Lync is installed, view the default DSCP values in the DSCP
settings dialog box. You can change the default values as needed. HP recommends that you set
the DSCP values according to the capabilities and requirements for your network.
The following information introduces how to modify the default DSCP settings for different media
types.
Modifying DSCP settings for different media types
1. In the Configurations page, click the Display icon to the left of DSCP Setting.
The DSCP Setting box appears.
2. The default DSCP value for each call type is predefined. To change the default DSCP value
of a media type, select a value from the drop-down list to the left of the media type. The media
types include:
ControlControl traffic is used on communications with Lync SDN Managers, and is
installed when an application is activated to ensure control packet connectivity.
VoiceVoice traffic is used on voice calls between Lync clients.
VideoVideo traffic is used on video calls between Lync clients.
Application shareApplication share traffic is used on application share events initiated
via Lync.
DSCP value range is from 0 to 63. Table 8 lists default DSCP values for all the media types,
which are also the recommended DSCP values. HP recommends that you use the default values
for ensuring the communication quality.

NOTE: Modifications to DSCP settings impact all existing flows immediately. For example,
you can modify DSCP settings to improve the quality of all Lync calls that are currently taking
place.
