If any type of user mapping has been selected then additional checks are made. If user name mapping has
been selected the passwd.nis file is scanned to determine if there is a UNIX user that has a logon name identical
with the Windows client. Similarly if full name mapping has been selected the passwd.nis file will be scanned to
determine if there is a UNIX client where the NT Windows full name matches the contents of the UNIX comment
field which is frequently used for the users full name. If the HP NetStorage 6000 is able to find a match in the
passwd.nis file then the UID and GID that will be associated with this Windows client will be that UID and GID
from their UNIX account.
Windows Client User Mapping UNIX
Client
Comments
New Windows
client.
No user
mapping.
Yes or No The users.map and passwd files
are searched. Since this is a
new client no match is found.
The passwd.nis file is NOT
searched since the administrator
does not want to associate
Windows and UNIX clients that
have the same user name.
Since this is a new client no
match is found so a UID and
GID will be assigned by the HP
NetStorage 6000 beginning
with 60001 for the UID and
GID. The appropriate entry will
be made in the passwd file.
New Windows
client.
User mapping is
selected.
Yes The users.map and passwd files
are searched. Since this is a
new client no match is found.
The passwd.nis file is consulted.
A match is found because the
Windows name is the same as
the UNIX logon name.
Windows client will be assigned
the UID and GID from the
passwd.nis file. An entry will
be made in the users.map file to
associate the UNIX and
Windows accounts.
New Windows
client.
User mapping is
selected.
No The users.map and passwd files
are searched. Since this is a
new client no match is found.
