README for the HP Neoview Command Interface (NCI) (R2.5)

You can install NCI using either of those installer files. For more information, see “Choosing an
Installer (page 12).
Installation Requirements
The Neoview Command Interface (NCI) runs on Windows and various *nix operating systems,
including AIX, HP-UX, Linux, and Solaris. Before installing NCI on the client workstation, follow
these instructions:
“Installing and Verifying the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)” (page 7)
“Installing and Verifying the Neoview JDBC Type 4 Driver (page 10)
“Installing Perl or Python” (page 11)
Installing and Verifying the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
NCI and the Neoview JDBC Type 4 Driver require a compatible Java version to be installed on
the client workstation. The supported Java versions are:
JRE 1.5
JRE 1.4.2
JRE 1.4.2_01, 1.4.2_02, 1.4.2_03, 1.4.2_04, 1.4.2_05, 1.4.2_06, 1.4.2_07, 1.4.2_10, and 1.4.2_11
These Java versions are not supported:
Versions before 1.4.2
GNU Java Runtime Environment
NOTE: If you are using U.S. Daylight Savings Time (DST) and want to avoid using incorrect
times, make sure that your Java Runtime Environment uses the correct DST rules. JRE 1.4.2_11
and later versions support the DST rules that went into effect in 2007.
Installing a Supported Java Version
To install one of the supported Java versions on the client workstation, follow the instructions
on the Sun Microsystems Web site:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/desktopjava/jre/index.jsp
After installing the Java version, proceed with “Verifying the Java Version” (page 7).
Verifying the Java Version
To display the Java version of the client workstation on the screen, enter:
java -version
For example:
C:\>java -version
java version "1.5.0_15"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_15-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_15-b04, mixed mode, sharing)
C:\>
If the returned version is not supported or is unavailable, see:
“Setting the PATH to a Supported Java Version on Windows” (page 8)
“Setting the PATH to a Supported Java Version on Linux or UNIX” (page 9)
