README for the HP Neoview Command Interface (NCI) (R2.5)

Installing Perl or Python
If you plan to use Perl or Python scripts with NCI, verify that you have Perl or Python installed
on the client workstation. NCI supports these versions of Perl and Python:
• Perl version 5.8.8
• Python version 2.3.4
If you do not have Perl or Python, download it from any open source software provider. You
can perform this installation procedure anytime before or after installing NCI.
If you plan to run the sample scripts provided with NCI, verify that you have the Perl JavaServer
and Jython (Java implementation of Python) installed on your client workstation. The NCI
Installation Wizard can attempt to automatically download and install both the Perl JavaServer
and Jython open source extensions. To download them manually, refer to the README in the
samples directory.
Installation Instructions
NOTE: Before following the installation procedures, you must install the Neoview JDBC Type
4 Driver on the client workstation. For more information, see the “Installation Requirements”
(page 7).
Follow these instructions to download and install NCI on the client workstation.

Downloading the Installers
NOTE: The Neoview Windows Client Package provides a collection of Windows drivers and
tools, including NCI, that you can install collectively to save time. If you are downloading NCI
as part of the Neoview Windows Client package, skip these steps, and see the README for the
HP Neoview Windows Client Package.
1. Locate or create a directory or folder for the installer files anywhere on the client workstation.
2. On the client workstation, start a Web browser and navigate to the download site:
http://www.software.hp.com
3. Enter Neoview Command Interface in the search box in the upper right corner of the
Software Depot home page.
4. Click the HP Neoview Command Interface link that appears in the search results.
5. Follow the directions on the HP Neoview Command Interface page for downloading the
NCI software.
The NCI software is packaged in an archive file:
HP_Neoview_Command_Interface_Vx.y.z_nnnnnn_nnn.zip

6. Extract the installer files from the archive file to a location on your client workstation.
