Logging On as a Database User
To log in to the Neoview database, provide:
• Your username. If you are a remotely authenticated database user—that is, if your credentials
are stored in an external directory server such as an LDAP server—your username must
match the name by which you are known on that server.
To specify the username, use the connection property user either in the connection string
or in the properties file. The value of this property is a string containing any valid database
user name.
• Your personal password. To specify the password, use the connection property password
either in the connection string or in the properties file. If you are a locally authenticated
database user, this is the password associated with your account on the Neoview platform.
If you are a remotely authenticated database user, this is the password associated with your
account on the external directory server.
• Your role. A database user can have multiple roles. When you log on, you specify the role
you want to use for the connection.
To specify the role, use the connection property rolename either in the connection string
or in the properties file. The value of this property is a string containing any valid Neoview
role name, including the prefix “ROLE.” If you do not specify a role name, your default role
applies.
• Your role password if you are logging on the role ROLE.DBA, ROLE.MGR, or ROLE.SECMGR
and if the security policy at your site requires you to specify both your individual password
and your role password. If you need to specify both the personal password and the role
password, use the form mypassword/rolepassword as the value of the connection property
password, either in the connection string or in the properties file.
