README for HP Neoview Release 2.5 (R2.5)
NOTE: It is possible to log on to Neoview with a client from a release earlier than Release 2.5,
but features such as role selection and industry-standard password encryption will not be available
on those connections, and therefore any such connection presents a potential security risk. For
more information about these issues and Neoview security in general, see the Neoview User
Management and Security Administration Guide.
Neoview Transporter
The Neoview Transporter includes these new features:
• New Control File options: inlinesort enables Enhanced Initial Load, loadid provides
a unique identification for the load job, and exceptiontable provides a name for the
exception table for a load job.
• Updates to existing Control File options:
— The errors value increased from 10000 to 2147483647.
— The discards value increased from 10000 to 2147483647.
— The taskrowsetsize if not explicitly set in the control file, now automatically
determines an optimal value based on heap size (memory allocated) of the client.
• Support for the Neoview Transporter Enhanced Initial Load (EIL). Transporter can now
optionally perform an initial load operation using a faster process, depending on your
configuration. EIL uses:
— A faster, one-step load process without involving staging tables.
— Exception tables for reporting non-fatal load errors.
For more information, see the Neoview Transporter User Guide.
To install the Neoview Transporter Java Client, see the README for the HP Neoview Transporter
Java Client.
Neoview ADO.NET Provider
Neoview now supports the ADO.NET driver. The Neoview ADO.NET Provider is the Neoview
implementation of a set of software components included in the Microsoft .NET Framework.
You can use ADO.NET objects, methods, and properties for data source connectivity and to
access and manipulate data in a Neoview SQL database.
Neoview JDBC Type 4 Driver
Release 2.5 introduces these new features for the Neoview JDBC Type 4 Driver:
Secure Login and Role Selection in the Neoview JDBC Type 4 Driver
The Release 2.5 version of the JDBC Type 4 driver includes the following features not present in
earlier general availability releases:
• Support for password encryption
• Connection properties for specifying the location of the server certificate used to encrypt
passwords when connecting to a specific Neoview platform from the workstation
• Connection property for specifying the role during logon
• Function for obtaining the current role
Password encryption features are available on the following platforms, provided that you run a
Release 2.5 or later version of the JDBC driver:
• Windows 32-bit
• Windows 64-bit
• IBM AIX®
• IBM AIX® 64-bit
