“Assign Administrators” (page 39).
What Are Services?
Services are a mechanism in WMS to enable you to prioritize query workloads on a Neoview
platform and allocate the appropriate amount of system resources to each workload. WMS has
these types of services:
• “System Service” (page 47)
• “Predefined HPS Services and Connection Rules” (page 47)
• “Default Service” (page 48)
• “User-Defined Services” (page 48)
System Service
WMS has a built-in system configuration, the internal SYSTEM service, which defines thresholds
for the Neoview platform. The SYSTEM service is invisible to users and does not handle incoming
queries, as other services in WMS do. However, WMS applies the threshold values from the
SYSTEM service as default values when you do not specify those threshold values when creating
a service. To alter the threshold values of the SYSTEM service, see “Configure the WMS System”
(page 50).
Predefined HPS Services and Connection Rules
WMS has a set of predefined services and connection rules, which are reserved for the internal
operations of the Neoview Transporter and Neoview management tools, such as the HP Database
Manager (HPDM) and the Neoview Performance Analysis Tools (NPA Tools). The names of
those predefined services and rules begin with the “HPS_” prefix. See Table 4-1.
NOTE: You cannot add, alter, or delete these predefined services and rules.
