Neoview User Management and Security Administration Guide (R2.5)

Must have at least 1 and no more than 128 characters.
Only printable characters are permitted.
If the password includes commas, it must be enclosed in double quotation marks (").
NOTE: A string enclosed in quotation marks can include any character in the ASCII range
codes 32-126. A non-quoted string can include any character in that range except a space,
quotation marks, left or right parenthesis, or comma.
The value in the default configuration, as provided with the software release, is NULL.
However:
In NCI, you can use the ALTER SERVER command to specify a different value for any
server or domain; to specify a default value, use the ALTER SERVER command specifying
default as the domain name. A NULL password results in an authentication error.
HPDM requires you to specify a Search User Password for every server you define. It
does not recognize a default value, even if you set one in NCI.
If you do not want to enter the password value on the command line, specify the parameter
name SearchUserPwd without any value. In this case, the command will prompt you for
the value without echoing the input to the screen.
NOTE: If you include a password as a parameter on the command line, then in the event
of a command syntax error, the password you entered could be logged in clear text on your
client system. To prevent a password from being exposed in this way, specify only the
keyword SearchUserPwd and allow yourself to be prompted for the value; you will be
asked to confirm the value by typing it a second time:
.sec create SERVER NeoviewDirectoryServer 100 , SearchUserPwd
SearchUserPwd:
Confirm new password:
ConfigText
The name of a text file that contains configuration information for the LDAP server. The
format of this file is described in detail in “Configuration Description File for Use with NCI”
(page 68).
The filename indicates the path to a text file on the workstation. That file must exist and can
contain a maximum of 20K characters. If you specify a relative pathname, NCI looks for the
file in the current working directory of the user performing the configuration actions.
HPDM does not use a configuration description file at all. Instead, you specify the
corresponding parameters as Common Parameters or simply Parameters in the Add Directory
server or Edit Directory Server dialog.
NOTE: Entries you make in the HPDM Common Parameters box overwrite any
corresponding values in the default configuration entry. For example, if you define three
servers of the openLDAP type and make some changes in the Common Parameters when
you define the third server, those values will be used by default for any additional servers
you define and will also retroactively affect the configurations already defined. If you use Active
Directory, you can edit the Common Parameters only when you add or edit the configuration
of a Global Catalog server; HPDM does not allow you to edit Common Parameters when
you add or edit the configuration of a Domain Controller.
If you specify a value of ConfigText in the INFO SERVER command, the contents of the
existing file are overwritten. If you do not specify it, the contents of the configuration
description file are written to standard output.
