Neoview User Management and Security Administration Guide (R2.5)

Download Neoview client software from the Software Depot website at www.software.hp.com
to take advantage of features such as password encryption and role selection at login. Neoview
2.3 and 2.4 clients and drivers will work with Neoview Release 2.5 (if you set the security policy
accordingly) but will not provide password security between the client and the server. Conversely,
if you use a Release 2.5 client and driver and connect to a Neoview platform running Release 2.3
or 2.4, the driver will not encrypt the password. Full password security will be available only
when a Release 2.5 client and driver connect to a Release 2.5 Neoview platform.
For installation instructions pertaining to a specific client, see the latest README document for
that client. For information about the Windows Client Package, which you can use to install
multiple Windows clients, see the README for the HP Neoview Windows Client Package.
For a complete list of client README titles, see “Related Documentation” (page 13).
For a generalized description of client features related to secure logon and role selection, see
“Secure Login and Role Selection for Neoview Users” (page 145).
Logging on as Security Administrator
To log on to NCI for the first time as the Security Administrator, use the predefined name
SECURITYMGR and specify the initial SECURITYMGR password:
HPNe@v1ew
Among your first tasks will be to change this password, as described in “Changing Passwords
for Predefined Users and Roles” (page 35), and to create additional users with the ROLE.SECMGR
role, as discussed in “Best Practices for Platform and Power User Management” (page 37).
Changing Passwords for Predefined Users and Roles
The Neoview platform installation procedure creates several special users and roles, as described
in “User and Role Names and Associated Functions” (page 19). It is good practice to change the
passwords of predefined users and roles soon after system installation or upgrade.
The SECURITYMGR should use either HPDM or NCI to change the passwords of the following
predefined users and roles:
