About This Document
This guide describes Security features of the Neoview platform, including user and role
management for database and platform users, support for integration with Lightweight Directory
Access Protocol (LDAP) directory servers, password encryption, and database security.
Intended Audience
This guide is intended for security administrators and others who will define users and roles,
manage certificates, and configure the Neoview platform to interact with external directory
(LDAP) servers. It is also intended for other users who need to understand how users are defined
and managed on the Neoview platform.

Document Organization
This document is organized as follows:
Chapter 1: “Introduction to Security on the Neoview Platform” (page 17) presents an
overview of the Neoview security infrastructure.
Chapter 2: “Post-installation Security Setup Tasks” (page 33) describes the first tasks that
the Security Administrator performs upon taking delivery of an installed Neoview platform.
Chapter 3: “LDAP Integration Overview” (page 63) introduces basic LDAP concepts and
tasks for integrating the Neoview platform with an external LDAP server.
Chapter 4: “LDAP Server Configuration on Neoview” (page 67) describes how to configure
the Neoview platform to use an external LDAP directory server.
Chapter 5: “User and Role Management” (page 95) describes the commands for registering
users and defining roles on the Neoview platform.
Chapter 6: “Database Security” (page 131) describes features pertaining to security of Neoview
database objects.
Appendix A: “Secure Login and Role Selection for Neoview Users” (page 145) is a summary
of Neoview client features related to secure logon and role selection.
