For a description of the NCI ALTER PASSWORD command, see “ALTER PASSWORD Command
(platform users, locally authenticated database users)” (page 108). For information about changing
your password when you log on to NCI, see the Neoview Command Interface (NCI) Guide. For more
information about the HPDM Change Password dialog and how to navigate to it either from the
Edit System dialog or at login, see the HPDM Online Help.
Managing Platform Users
The Security Administrator has the capability to create and modify attributes of platform users.
Please take note of HP's recommendations in “Best Practices for Platform and Power User
Management” (page 37) before adding or modifying platform accounts.
The security infrastructure provides the following HPDM dialogs and NCI commands for platform
user management. Most user-management actions that pertain to platform users are restricted
to users assigned the role ROLE.SECMGR, except that:
• A platform user may change his or her own password, using the ALTER PASSWORD
command.
To run commands from NCI, set security mode either on each command line or before executing
a series of commands, as described in “Security Mode” (page 29).

Creating a Platform User Account
A user in the role ROLE.SECMGR can use the NCI CREATE USER command or the HPDM Add
Platform User dialog to create a new platform user.
Unlike a database user, a platform user can have only one role. The only way to change the user's
role is to drop the user, then recreate the user with the preferred role.
