Neoview User Management and Security Administration Guide (R2.5)
Changing a Database User Password
There is no way to change the password of a remotely authenticated database user on the Neoview
platform. However, a user in the role ROLE.MGR can use the NCI ALTER USER command or
the HPDM Edit User dialog to change the password and password-expiration attributes of any
locally authenticated database user except one who has only the ROLE.SECMGR role. Only a
ROLE.SECMGR user can change the password of a user who has only the ROLE.SECMGR role.

Changing Your Own Password
If you are a locally authenticated user, you can change your own password. If your password
has not yet expired, or if the security policy specifies a grace period and that grace period has
not expired, you can use the NCI ALTER PASSWORD command or, in HPDM, select a target
system and choose Change Password from the drop-down menu. If your password has expired
or is about to expire, you can also change it when logging on to either NCI or HPDM.
If you are a remotely authenticated user, you cannot change your password from any Neoview
client. Passwords for remotely authenticated users are managed on the external directory server.
If an error occurs when you try to change your password, NCI displays one of the following
types of errors:
• If you entered the old password incorrectly or it is no longer valid, the error is
24135 Old password is not correct.
• If you are no longer recognized as a user on the Neoview platform, the error is
24055 Failed to get the user entry. The entry does not exist.
