Neoview Command Interface (NCI) Guide (R2.5)
Logging In to the Database Platform
• “Logging In Without Using Login Parameters” (page 35)
• “Using Login Parameters” (page 36)
• “Retrying the Login” (page 37)
NOTE: You must be authorized to log in to the database platform. To create a user ID to log in
to the database, see the Neoview User Management and Security Administration Guide.
Logging In Without Using Login Parameters
NOTE: If you launch NCI from within HPDM, the NCI session inherits the connection attributes
of the HPDM session.
If you launch NCI outside HPDM and do not specify login parameters on the command line,
follow these steps:
1. After you launch NCI, NCI shows the welcome banner and prompts you to enter the host
name or IP address of the database platform:
Host Name/IP Address: _
Enter a host name:
host-name[.domain-name][:port-number]
• If you do not specify the domain name, NCI uses the domain of the client workstation.
• If you do not specify a port number, NCI uses the default port number, which is 18650.
Or enter an IP address:
IP-address[:port-number]
2. Enter your user name.
User names are case-insensitive.
3. Enter your password.
Passwords are case-sensitive.
Depending on the security policies in force at your site, you might be required to supply
two passwords—your own user password and a role password. If you are required to enter
two passwords, specify both passwords using this format:
userpassword/rolepassword
You might be required to supply two passwords if you are one of these types of users:
• Power database user (that is, a locally authenticated database user) associated with
ROLE.MGR, ROLE.SECMGR, or ROLE.DBA
• Platform user associated with one of the platform roles: SUPER.name, HP.name, or
NEOVIEW.name
For more information about security policy options, see the Neoview User Management and
Security Administration Guide.
4. Enter the name of a data source that is available and running (that is, started).
If you do not enter a data source, NCI connects to Admin_Load_DataSource by default.
If Admin_Load_DataSource (or any data source that you specify) is not started, NCI
returns an error and prompts you to close the session. If you specify a data source that does
not exist, NCI returns a warning and connects to TDM_Default_DataSource instead.
