Neoview Workload Management Services Guide (R2.4)

Setting Up Services, Thresholds, and Rules in WMS
Using WMS commands, you can configure services and rules in WMS for queries that run on
the Neoview platform. Each service has a priority and can have one or more of these threshold
limits:
Maximum CPU busy
Maximum memory usage
Maximum rows fetched
Active period of query execution for the service
Timeout values for queries waiting to execute, executing, and holding in the service
WMS manages queries assigned to a service according to the priority, thresholds, and rules of
the service. To configure WMS with services and thresholds, see Chapter 3 (page 27).
Each service can also have a set of rules associated with it. Rules define how the services in WMS
manage their query workloads. You can define connection, compilation, and execution rules and
associate them with services by using WMS commands. To configure rules, see Chapter 4
(page 39).
Monitoring and Managing Queries in WMS
To manage query workloads in the services that you configure in WMS, you must define
connection rules for those services. If you do not define connection rules for those services, WMS
does not use those services for incoming queries but instead manages queries in the default
service, HP_DEFAULT_SERVICE. You can also optionally define compilation and execution
rules to manage queries in services. For more information, see Chapter 4 (page 39).
You can monitor the queries, services, and rules being managed by WMS by using WMS
commands in a client management tool, such as NCI. The STATUS commands return information
about the queries, services, and rules being managed by WMS. Other commands enable you to
hold queries, release holding queries, and cancel queries to free resources. For more information
about using WMS commands to monitor and manage query workloads, see Chapter 5 (page 69).
