4 Database Errors and EMS Event Attributes
This chapter describes the database errors and EMS (event management system) attributes
generated by the Neoview platform. Table 4-1 (page 160) through Table 4-6 (page 211) list each
error, the corresponding target of the event, the experience level of the user, and the severity of
the event.
Event Target
The Neoview database generates a variety of EMS events spanning a wide range of issues that
generate error messages. Depending on the complexity and urgency of the issue, events are
targeted to different owner groups for resolution. The groups include:
The database administrator (DBA) who has expertise in resolving neoview database issues.DBA
HP service providers who have expertise in resolving complex issues not resolved by the DBA.Dial-out
Event in this category are usually minor or informational.Log only
Experience Level
EMS events are classified by the experience level of the user and include:
Users with complete access to the database who can submit DML and DDL statements, develop
Neoview database applications, or use Neoview database tools and utilities.
Advanced
Users who do not have the access or knowledge to perform more advanced Neoview database
operations.
Beginner
Severity
EMS events generated by Neoview database are classified according to their importance and
severity. The severity level is defined by the experience of the user. The severity levels include:
Requires immediate resolution. Event can indicate a loss of data, loss of a Major resource, or loss of
system integrity.
Critical
Requires prompt resolution. Event can indicate a potential loss of data or loss of resource fault
tolerance.
Major
Requires eventual resolution. Event can indicate syntax problems.Minor
Requires no further action. Event provides status information.Informational
