Java Considerations
Neoview DB Admin runs in any Web browser/platform pair for which the Sun Java Plug-in
1.4.2_01 or later has been installed. If you start DB Admin using Microsoft Internet Explorer on
a Windows platform and Internet Explorer cannot find the plug-in, a prompt gives you the option
to install the plug-in automatically.
To check the product version of the Java runtime being used, open your browser's Java console
to display the product version information.
For systems that are not connected to the Internet, you must manually install the plug-in on each
workstation. You should connect to the Internet during installation to find and install the most
current version of the plug-in.
These Java runtime product versions are supported:
JRE 1.4.2
JRE 1.4.2_01, 1.4.2_02, 1.4.2_03, 1.4.2_04, 1.4.2_05, 1.4.2_06, 1.4.2_07, 1.4.2_10, and 1.4.2_11
JRE 1.5.0
U.S. Daylight Saving Time (DST) Changes in 2007
The United States plans a change to its observance of Daylight Saving Time, beginning in 2007.
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandates that DST will start on the second Sunday in March and
end on the first Sunday in November. These dates were previously the first Sunday in April and
the last Sunday in October.
With this change, the JRE stored rules of the DST observance will be outdated. As a result, any
date and time display in DB Admin may no longer be accurate unless you install the new JRE
stored rules for DST. Follow the directions on Sun's website:
http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Intl/USDST/
These Java runtime product versions are not supported:
Versions prior to 1.4.2
If you have a 1.4.2 version later than 1.4.2_04, you will be asked to accept a license and install
some additional software onto your workstation. DB Admin chooses the newest product version
of the Java runtime on your workstation, so you might have to uninstall version 1.5 if it is present.
Some unusual combinations of Java runtimes can cause your browser to hang. In particular, your
configuration might have a 1.4.1 plug-in mixed with a 1.4.2 runtime. To avoid potential problems,
uninstall all versions of the Java runtime except for one of the 1.4.2 versions.
