Network and Storage Planning 9
Basic Storage Configuration
The most basic storage configuration consists of one LUN on each Array and one Volume
Group. This configuration provides access to the full amount of available disk space and allows
you to subdivide the entire capacity into multiple file volumes and snapshots. While this is the
most flexible setup for a system with a single array and a single NAS server, using a single
volume group may limit options for future system upgrades.
You should choose a single volume group configuration only when all of the following are true:
■
You require the entire storage array to be configured as a single file system.
■
The total storage capacity of your array does not exceed 2 TB.
■
You do not intend to upgrade to a high-availability configuration at any time.
