Connect Power
Connect the UPS (optional):
1. Install the power and battery modules into the frame. See the UPS user’s guide for more
information.
— Power Module: Slide the module into a bay until flush with frame. Tighten the two screws
to secure the module.
— Battery Module: Lift the module and slide it completely into the frame. Align the tab on
top of the module with the connector inside the bay. Tighten the two screws to secure the
module.
Caution Install battery modules just prior to running the UPS. The battery modules
discharge slowly when loaded prematurely and can be damaged permanently.
2. Connect the Serial Management Cable on the UPS to the COM1 serial port on the server.

3. Attach the UPS to a power source:
Symmetra RM UPS:
— If the planned power load is less than or equal to 5 kVA, plug the line into an
appropriate outlet.
— If the planned power load is greater than 5 kVA, a qualified electrician must hard wire
the input power.
Symmetra UPS:
— Regardless of the power load, a qualified electrician must hard wire the input power.
