7. Build the Storage System
Use the information gathered earlier on the storage planning worksheet to complete the
following tasks. These tasks must be completed before users can access storage on the NAS
8000 SAN:
■
Scan for storage
■
Confirm available space
■
Create volume groups
■
Create file volumes and, optionally, directories
■
Assign shared access
Create and Configure LUNs on the SAN-attached Storage Arrays
Before using the HP NAS 8000 Command View NAS web interface to configure storage, LUNs
must exist on the storage arrays within the SAN. These may be created using
CommandViewSDM/XP or terminal-based software. In addition, SecureManager VA or
SecureManager XP is required to employ LUN masking. Finally, if the SAN is heterogeneous, a
Host Port Behavior table is required to configure arrays to communicate with the HP NAS
operating system.
Note Host-based LUN masking using third party software is not
not not
not supported.
To make storage within the SAN accessible to the HP NAS 8000:
1. Create LUNs on each array using CommandView SDM/XP or terminal-based software.
2. LUN mask using the SAN configuration tools.
3. Configure Host Port Behavior using the SAN configuration tools.
See your storage array and SAN management software user’s guides for detailed information
on creating LUNs, LUN masking, and setting Host Port Behavior.
