MSA 2040 rear features • Access from a workstation on the server to the MSA 2040 (to access the SMU and validate host connections) • Access to the Internet (to access HP websites for the latest QuickSpecs, user documents, and firmware) The rear of the MSA 2040 is the same for both MSA 2040 models. Step 2. Connect expansion drive enclosures The following image illustrates connecting two D2700 drive enclosures to an MSA 2040 using a straight-through cabling scheme. If expansion drive enclosures are included in your environment, connect SAS cables per their cabling plan, either straight-through or Fault tolerant. Mini-SAS to Mini-SAS cables are required for each drive enclosure. The following drive enclosures are supported: Drive enclosure model Description HP MSA 2040 LFF Disk Enclosure 6Gb SAS 3.

Step 3. Connect the MSA 2040 to data hosts Direct-connect and switch-connect environments are supported. For direct-connect configurations, connect cables from the MSA 2040 to the host. For switch-connect configurations, connect cables from the MSA 2040 to the switch ports and from the switch ports to the hosts. MSA 2040 connection guidelines • No host interface cables are shipped with MSA 2040 enclosures. For a list of cables available from HP, see the HP MSA 2040 QuickSpecs.
