License Rehosting
Introduction
DSS license rehosting is the process of moving a license from the MAC address to which it is
currently locked to another MAC address. This is occasionally necessary if the DSS software is being
moved to a new server to upgrade software or hardware or possibly if the current DSS server has
had a problem and required a network card change.
A license can only be rehosted 3 times. If there is an attempt to move the license a fourth time the
customer receives an error message. If the customer receives this error and they feel they have a
valid reason to rehost the license they should contact licensing support at the web site mentioned
above and request special permission.
Rehosting Considerations for Licenses Purchased Before July 2010
For DSS licenses purchased before July 2010 rehosting will continue to be done with the old
rehosting process. This process is described below.

For licenses purchased between July 2010 and December 2

the License Number should be used wherever the instructions below say to use the EON.
Old Rehosting Process – Customers contact Licensing Support for help with Rehosting
The old rehosting process requires the customer to contact licensing support and request that their
licenses be rehosted. The customer must specify the MAC address the license is currently locked to
and the MAC address to which they should be moved. The customer should also provide the
company name and the size and amount of the licenses to be moved. Refer to the web site
www.hp.com/software/licensing-support for information on how to contact licensing support in
your region.
