HP Matrix 7.2 KVM Private Cloud Getting Started Guide

Activated hosts cannot be provisioned
Apply the recommendations that pertain to your situation.
Possible cause and recommendationSymptom
The time or time zone has changed
Changing the time or time zone in the appliance user interface can make
all activated hosts unresponsive to provisioning and cloud instance life cycle

requests. If this situation occurs after hosts have been activated, for each host
that was previously activated and is now showing critical status, perform the
following steps to synchronize the time on the hosts with the appliance.
1. Check that the host is configured to have the appliance as the NTP server.
/etc/ntp.conf has the appliance configured as an NTP server:
server isc.mgmt.local # ISC
/etc/hosts has a private LAN IP address set for the appliance
hostname isc.mgmt.local (For example: 192.0.2.0
isc.mgmt.local )
2. Execute the following commands on the command line:
service ntpd stop
ntpdate isc.mgmt.local
service ntpd start
3. Restart services on the host by entering the following commands on the
command line:
service openstack-nova-compute restart
service openstack-nova-network restart
If possible, protect against this circumstance by synchronizing the appliance
clock with an NTP server. See the Matrix KVM Admin Console online help
for instructions on synchronizing the appliance with an NTP server.
Deactivate host operation is unsuccessful
Apply the recommendations that pertain to your situation.
Possible cause and recommendationSymptom
The managed host has not been activated
1. Ensure that the host is activated. An active host displays a green icon.
One or more virtual machines are running on the VM host
1. Make sure there are no virtual machine instances running on the host. If
an instance is running on the host, you must delete the instance before
you can deactivate the host.
To delete an instance, select Instances from the main menu, then select
ActionsDelete.
Retry the Deactivate operation.
You see an error on the Activity screen
when you try to deactivate a host
Deactivation log files might have exhausted the VM host disk
volume space
The VM host crashes when you try to
deactivate it
1. Bring the VM host back up.
2. Ensure that the log files are being written to a physical volume other than
the boot disk. (Assigning a log location should be done prior to activating
a host.)
