HP Insight Dynamics 6.3 Release Notes
to Insight Dynamics. For example, SPM might present a storage service candidate to Insight
Dynamics that is not visible by the initiator(s) specified in the service request.
Suggested action
During storage volume allocation (using the device manager), take note of how device ports are
connected to the SAN infrastructure. Then, after the array is added to the SPM catalog, perform
the following steps:
1. From the SPM “Catalog” view (accessed by clicking on Catalog in the left-hand navigation
tree), use the “Define SAN IDs” button at the bottom of the screen and create a SAN ID for
each SAN to which the array is connected via one or more ports. (This feature can also be
accessed using the Catalog menu, in the “Define SAN IDs” selection.)
2. In the SPM "Array Properties" dialog, "Connectivity" tab, set the "SAN/Network Connectivity"
property for every target port in the array, using the SAN IDs created in Step 1.
Permissions must allow host mode changes with 3PAR storage systems
If you use 3PAR storage systems with SPM, the volumes in the storage catalog must have permissions
to allow host mode changes (access right Volume Modify Presentation) unless the only host mode
used is HP-UX.
3PAR storage systems support several host mode types, while SPM recognizes only HP-UX and
Generic. If the 3PAR storage system host mode type is not HP-UX, SPM may not have enough
information to determine the host mode for the presentation. In this case, the host mode displays
as Unknown. This is not an issue if SPM is changing the host mode to match a request. However,
it is an issue if the environment is using pre-presented LUNs that do not allow host mode changes
in SPM. If an Insight Dynamics storage pool entry storage request specifies a particular host mode,
it will not match Unknown. The storage pool entry host mode can be left unspecified, then it will
match (assuming the user has permissions in SPM to change the host mode). Insight Dynamics will
retain knowledge of the unspecified host mode, while SPM may display Generic (for Windows),
until the storage pool entry is affiliated with a logical server and the appropriate host mode is
known and adjusted using SPM.
SPM performance with a large number of hosts on a CommandView server
When Insight Dynamics tries to allocate a storage pool entry and requests that SPM present an
associated EVA volume to a host, SPM may exhibit slow performance if the EVA CommandView
server is tracking a large number of hosts. If this occurs, note that your system is not hung and the
operation will complete.
3PAR autonomic groups and virtual domains are not supported in SPM
The following 3PAR features are not supported in this release of SPM. See the HP Storage
Provisioning Manager (SPM) User Guide at www.hp.com/go/insightdynamics/docs for more
information.
• Autonomic groups
SPM does not support 3PAR autonomic groups (object sets). Under certain conditions, SPM
can coexist with autonomic groups, but it does not take advantage of that functionality.
• Virtual domains
SPM does not support 3PAR virtual domains. Using virtual domains on 3PAR storage systems
managed by SPM will likely result in erratic behavior in SPM, particularly during volume
import, volume refresh and goal binding.
Firmware for 3PAR storage systems
3PAR storage systems must have InformOS 2.3.1 MU3 P16 or later installed in order to work
properly with SPM.
