HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.3 Release Notes

B HP Capacity Advisor enhancement details
Systems with a possible infinite loop locates systems with possible resource problems due to a
profile indicating that an application is in an infinite loop. These systems have had at least one
CPU core fully utilized for more than 24 hours, or at least half of one hyperthreaded CPU core
occupied for more than 48 hours.
The following new attributes are included in the attributes available for use in the analysis queries
on the CPU tab.
DescriptionAttributeSection
The “Hours One Core Utilized” attribute
is the number of continuous hours of
that CPU load that has been at or
above a 1 core load. This time interval
always closes the analysis window and
its value is between 0 and 1000 hours.
Even when the analysis window is less
than 1000 hours wide, the value can
be as high as 1000. The “Hours One
Core Utilized” attribute is useful in
identifying systems where a thread or
process is in an infinite loop. System
performance improves when the
process is restarted. This is particularly
true when the infinite loop is in a VM
and the performance of many VMs are
affected. The value of this attribute is
never greater than the total amount of
data collected on this server. The
number of hours might include short
runs of missing data and ends, if there
is a huge block of missing data.

The “Hours Half Core Utilized” attribute
is the number of continuous hours of the
CPU load that is at or above a 1 core
load. This time interval always closes
the analysis window and its value is
between 0 and 1000 hours. Even when
the analysis window is less than 1000
hours wide, its value can be as high as
1000. The “Hours Half Core Utilized”
attribute is useful in identifying systems
where a thread or process is in an
infinite loop. System performance might
improve if the process is restarted. This
is true when the infinite loop is in a VM
and the performance of many VMs are
affected. The value of this attribute is
never greater than the total amount of
data collected on the particular server.
The number of hours might include short
runs of missing data and ends, if there
is a huge block of missing data.
