HP Insight Recovery 1.0 Release Notes
NOTE: You must license and install ID-VSE, before you can install and license HP Insight
Recovery.
The HP Insight Control suite is a prerequisite for installing ID-VSE.
ID-VSE is not considered “customer installable and configurable”, so for each HP SIM Central
Management Server (CMS) that is initially installed and configured to manage servers using
ID-VSE, there is a prerequisite for the ID-VSE Installation & Startup Service.
You must use the HP Insight Software 3.00 integrated installer to enable licensing from the HP
Systems Insight Manager Deploy > License Manager menu.
To add a key:
1. Go to Deploy > License Manager
2. Click Add Licenses
3. Enter the key in the Specify Key String field and then click Process.
4. When the key details appear, click Add Licenses Now.
To apply a license to a system, from Deploy > License Manager:
1. Go to Deploy > License Manager.
2. Select Insight Recovery in the Product License Information list and then click Manage
Licenses.
3. A list of license keys appears. Click Apply Licenses.
4. Select the systems to license, then click Apply and Next.
5. Select the unlicensed systems and then click Select License.
6. Select the license key to use and then click Apply License.
For successful operation of Insight Recovery, an Insight Dynamics – VSE license and an Insight
Control suite license must be applied to each managed target (each ProLiant server that hosts
the VC or VM-based DR Protected logical server). In addition, the c- Class BladeSystem enclosures
that contain the managed targets must be licensed for HP Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager
(VCEM) from the Insight Software DVDs 3.00 or higher. VCEM is installed as part of the Insight
Dynamics suite regardless of the environment, but is licensed separately and can only be used
with c-Class blade enclosures.
NOTE: VCEM has different license options for both c3000 and c7000 c-Class BladeSystem
enclosures.

How Many HP IR Licenses are Needed?
If you need to protect workloads running on VC and VM-based logical servers, you may need
to assign licenses to a mixture of ProLiant blades and ProLiant ML/DL servers. However you
may not need to license HP IR on all of the ProLiant servers in your data center that are running
logical servers. You may decide that only a subset of the logical servers configured in your data
center need IR protection. HP IR ensures that the Change local site to Primary command
places DR Protected logical servers only in HP IR licensed physical servers. At a minimum, you
must configure each Primary and Recovery Site with adequate HP IR licenses to protect all of
the logical servers that can be assigned to recovery servers during a Change local site to
Primary operation. You may wish to assign more than the minimum HP IR licenses for the
following reasons:
