HP Matrix 7.2 KVM Private Cloud Getting Started Guide
Create a support dump file
Some error messages recommend that you create a support dump of the appliance so it can be
sent to HP Support for analysis. This support dump feature:
• Deletes any previous support dump file
• Gathers logs and other information required for debugging
• Creates an encrypted, compressed file.
The support dump file consists of:
• Operating system logs
• Product logs
• The results of certain operating system and product-related commands.
For issues regarding virtual machine instance creation and deployment, gather the following files
created on the VM hosts:
• /var/log/nova/*
• /var/log/isc/*
• /var/log/libvirt/*
• /etc/libvirt/*
Prerequisites
• Minimum required privileges: Infrastructure Administrator
Procedure 6 Creating a support dump
1. From the Settings screen, select Actions→Create support dump.
2. Click Yes, create.
You can continue doing other tasks while the support dump is created.
The name of the support dump file has the format host_name-CI-date-time.tar.gz.
3. The support dump file is downloaded when this task completes. If your browser settings specify
a default download folder, the support dump file is placed in that folder. Otherwise, you will
be prompted to indicate where to download the file.
4. Contact HP Support for instructions on transferring the support dump file to HP.
IMPORTANT: The support dump file is encrypted so that only authorized HP support personnel
are able to view the contents. Furthermore, in accordance to the HP data retention policy, support
dumps sent to HP are deleted after use.
Download audit logs
The audit log is intended to help a security administrator understand what related security- actions
took place.
This function lets you gather log files and other information that HP support needs so that it can
diagnose and troubleshoot an appliance.
