HP Insight Recovery 1.0 Release Notes

servers, including the operating system, applications code, and data, reside on HP StorageWorks
EVA array volumes. The Primary Site volumes are replicated on an HP StorageWorks EVA array
at the Recovery Site. The Primary and Recovery Site arrays are synchronized with Continuous
Access EVA. Each replicated Recovery Site volume is associated with a DR Protected peer logical
server at the Recovery Site. The combination of a DR Protected logical server and its associated
storage volume is referred to as a Recovery Group.
If a disaster occurs at the Primary Site, the administrator at the Recovery Site can trigger a site
failover via a push-button provided by HP Insight Recovery. This will failover all of the Recovery
Groups at the Recovery Site. For each Recovery Group, this involves preparing its storage volume
for read-write access and activating its associated logical server. After all of the Recovery Groups
are failed over, the role at the Recovery Site is changed to Primary Site.
What's New With HP Insight Recovery 1.0
The Matrix 1.01 update introduces ID-VSE support for VMware ESX 4.0, but HP Insight
Recovery 1.0 does not support failover of VMs created on ESX 4.0 (or any other ESX host),
to an ESX 4.0 host. To avoid unsuccessful failover of HP IR Recovery Groups:
1. Do not assign an ESX 4.0 host to an HP Insight Recovery license.
2. Do not configure a VM-based Logical Server in an HP IR Recovery Group, if the VM
was created in an ESX 4.0 environment.
The step for creating the HP Insight Recovery toolbox that is documented in the HP Insight
Recovery 1.0 online help is no longer required with the Matrix 1.01 update. The patch creates
a toolbox named “DR toolbox” and control over HP Insight Recovery authorization is
exercised using this toolbox. HP recommends using Virtual Machine Management version
3.7.1 - it is delivered as part of the Matrix 1.01 update.
NOTE: HP recommends upgrading to the Matrix 1.01 update. The Matrix 1.01 update for HP
Insight Recovery 1.0 can be accessed at: http://www.hp.com/go/insightrecovery
