3 Central Management Server requirements in a high
availability environment
This release of Insight Management supports the configuration of the CMS as a single-site, two-node
physical server Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster to create a highly-available
environment. Using failover clustering with Insight Management is a simple way to achieve
redundancy, availability, load balancing, and failover capability.
Clustering is an included feature of the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise operating
systems, and cluster support is an included feature of the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise
products.
Installing or upgrading a CMS cluster follows a different procedure from that of a single-server
CMS installation or upgrade. For more information, see the Installing and upgrading HP Insight

This release of Insight Management supports the following Microsoft Windows 2008 server (WS08)
platforms for high availability:

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 or SP3◦

IMPORTANT: HP recommends that users of Windows 2003 clusters migrate to a Windows
2008 cluster with the Insight Software 6.2 release, then upgrade to this release. Follow the migration
procedure described in Appendix D of the Insight Software 6.2 technical white paper, Installing
and upgrading to HP Insight Software 6.2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Clusters with
SQL Server 2008 for high availability.
