HP-UX Virtual Partitions 6.0 Administrator Guide
ILM Interleaved Memory. Is implemented as Partition Memory in HP Superdome 2, which includes
Direct Access Partition Memory and Agent Access Partition Memory
LORA Locality-Optimized Resource Alignment is a framework for increasing system performance by
exploiting the locality domains in HP servers with Non-Uniform Memory Architecture (NUMA).

NIC Network Interface Card. Also called network adapter.
nPartition A partition that is assigned one or more blades and optionally zero or more I/O bays. An
nPartition can run a single OS (either a standalone OS or an HPVM host), or an nPar can be
sub-divided into customer-defined vPars. An HP Superdome 2 nPar works like an nPar on cellular
servers.
NPIV N-Port Id Virtualization. Technology that allows multiple virtual initiators on a single host- based
adaptor (HBA). This technology removes the slot limitations that exists in the vPars versions earlier
to vPars v6.0.
OA Onboard Administrator. On HP Superdome 2, the OA is the complex management processor,
subsystem, and firmware base used to support HP Integrity Superdome 2 complexes and all the
managed devices contained within the complex.
OE Operating Environment. Refers to the HP-UX operating environment.
Partition Number A unique numeric value assigned to a partition.
PFC Physical fibre channel port.
pNIC Physical Network Interface Card. The physical network adapter, which may be configured with
APA.
SLM Socket Local Memory. Interleaved across the memory controllers of a single CPU socket. SLM
replaces the concept of cell local memory on cellular servers.
VFC Virtual fiber channel port.
Virtualization
Services Platform
See VSP.
VM Virtual machine.
vNIC Virtual network interface card. The virtual network adapter, as recognized by the operating system
installed on the vPars. Applications installed on the vPars access the network via the vNIC.
vNPWWN NPIV node world wide name.
vPar Virtual partition. A partition that is created and managed from the VSP. A vPar is assigned CPU
cores, shared I/O, and memory.
vPWWN NPIV port world wide name.
VSP Virtualization Services Platform. The management platform for creating and managing virtual
partitions. Provides both command-line interface and graphical user interface for configuring and
managing vPars.
vswitch virtual network switch. A virtual switch through which a virtual partition accesses the network.
You can create and control vswitches using the vparnet command.
vWWN Virtual World-Wide Name. In the context of this guide, a unique virtual world-wide name for
N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) Host Bus Adapters (HBAs).
WWN World-Wide Name. In the context of this guide, a unique world-wide name for N_Port ID
Virtualization (NPIV) Host Bus Adapters (HBAs).
