HP Matrix Operating Environment 7.1 Installation and Configuration Guide for Provisioning with Virtual Resources

Administrative credentials for:
Virtual environment management servers such as VMware vCenter Server or Microsoft
SCVMM servers
Managed hypervisor hosts
Any virtual machines that you intend to actively manage
If you intend to use a remote SQL Server database rather than the provided SQL Server Express,
you will need credentials to access the remote database.
Planning and design for public cloud bursting
Public cloud bursting is a feature that enables enterprises to provision public and private
infrastructure resources in a seamless way. Matrix OE supports bursting to:
HP Cloud Services (https://www.hpcloud.com)
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
Savvis Symphony Virtual Private Data Center
Matrix OE bursting capabilities share many of the same processes as local private resources:
The same Matrix OE service template designer, operations console, and self-service portal is
used in conjunction with the cloud provider-specific administrative interfaces. There are minor
changes to the appearance of the Matrix OE user interfaces based on the configuration of
the CMS for your cloud provider.
You design Matrix OE service templates that may contain any mix of private-cloud or
public-cloud resources.
For HPCS and EC2, the cloud software inventory includes images filtered directly from the
provider.
In the case of Savvis, local software choices are shown as proxies for and mapped to images
available on Savvis.
Some cloud providers do not provide visibility or control of a server’s network configuration.
In these cases, the subnet in the Matrix OE resource inventory cannot be used to control
sophisticated customization.
The request, approval, and deployment process is the same for cloud-based service requests
as for resources on the premises.
Each supported bursting destination brings unique configuration processes and networking
constraints. Some partners and destinations require public internet access and others require
additional VPN access.
Complete the configuration steps for HP Cloud Services, Savvis Symphony VPDC, or Amazon EC2
after you have finished the steps in this guide.
For instructions on configuring these destinations, see Cloud bursting with HP CloudSystem Matrix
infrastructure orchestration and HP Cloud Services or Amazon EC2 and Cloud bursting with HP
CloudSystem Matrix infrastructure orchestration and Savvis.
