Troubleshooting virtual machine hosts
These sections describe a behavior you might encounter and provide suggested actions you can
take.
Hosts do not appear on overview screen
Apply the recommendations that pertain to your situation.
Possible cause and recommendationSymptom
No VM hosts are configured for use
1. Make sure that all prerequisites have been met for each target VM host.
See also “Install RHEL 6.3 with KVM on the host before activation” (page
23).
The VM host network configuration is incorrect
No hosts are visible on the Hosts
overview screen
1. Run ifconfig to check the network configuration on the host. The DHCP
server on the Matrix KVM Admin Console appliance must recognize the
host.
2. If the host is connected to the appliance (eth1 has a valid DHCP IP
address), edit the file /etc/sysconfig/network on the host with the
following entries:
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=<change-name>
DHCP_HOSTNAME=<same-as-HOSTNAME>
The Matrix KVM Admin Console is displaying cached data
1. Refresh the Hosts screen.
Activate host operation is unsuccessful

Prerequisites for host activation have not been met
1. Make sure that all prerequisites have been met.

The host might be rebooting
1. Check its status on the Activity page. Wait for a reboot to complete (the
status icon will be green).
The user name and password for the operating system on the
host might be incorrect
1. Ensure that this information is entered correctly in the Activate dialog
when activating a host.
RHEL might have errors in the installation
1. Ensure that the activation base image was installed correctly by Red Hat
Package Manager (RPM).
Retry the Activate operation. See “Activating a host”.
You see an error on the Activity screen
